Chapter seventeen

MAB

My daughter. My beloved daughter. I thought I would never see her face again. She has grown into a beautiful woman. She has a fighting spirit and I am glad to know the humans listened to me and had her trained. I hope she had a good life with them, but I cannot think of that right now.

She is afraid of her Banshee. I never thought that could happen. However, growing up in the human realm and not knowing she is Fae is most likely what contributed to that. I had to send her there. There was no other choice.

Watching her connect to her Banshee, I breathe a sigh of relief. Her mate almost let it slip who I am. I had to keep him from saying it out loud. She does not need to be dealing with that right now. It will come soon enough when we have reached safety.

She blows through the doors and we rush out into the fray.

She screams and everyone but us drops to their knees holding their heads in agony. There are about thirty men as best as I can tell and I immediately start going around and slashing throats.

Ahhhhh, I have not been free for so long and I do so love a battle. This one will be over quickly. Too quickly for my liking, but it will be delicious while it lasts. These men took my kingdom. They killed my mate, my sweet Oberon, Nyx's father. I will have my retribution for that. Though it will not be today. Or even soon.

I finish off the soldiers I picked out for myself and watch Nyx's mate in action. Fate has chosen a good one for her. He flows like water between the soldiers killing them with ease. Nyx uses her sword to pick off the last few.

We stand there, breath heaving, gathering ourselves for a moment. Watching Nyx, I see her release her Banshee and she falls to her knees. Yes, this will have taken a lot out of her as it is her first shift.

She looks at Aeon, to check and see if he has any wounds, and then back at me. Shaking my head at her I tell her, “We need to find shelter as soon as we can. We have to hide and regroup and then get as far away from here as we can. We cannot open any portals until we get to the eastern part of the forest. The Grove of Orobos is the closest spot to here that we can safely portal out of.”

Looking shocked, Nyx says, “I received a message from one of my mates that he had been told I would go there and they were to meet me there. I would say that they are probably on their way there now.”

Nodding, I raise my hand and point in the direction of the east. “We need to head that way. Surely we will be able to find a place along the way where we can get help.
